About

The Singleton Center for the Study of Premodern Europe is an interdisciplinary consortium spanning the different departments and schools at Johns Hopkins University. The center is united by the mission of researching the European world before the advent of modernity. The center sponsors graduate research abroad, faculty-led initiatives to partner with European institutions of higher learning, and numerous activities at the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus in Baltimore. The center is named after Charles S. Singleton (1909-1985), a world-renowned scholar of medieval literature who taught for most of his career at Johns Hopkins University.
