Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies Summer 2014

CfA: “Practices, Procedures, Recursions: The Reality of Media?”

Fourth Annual Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies

Princeton, June 15—21, 2014

The 2014 session of the Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies is devoted to

approaches in media analysis whose focus are the operations, procedures, and practices

that constitute cultures. In distinction to approaches whose goal is a comprehensive media

theory, the fourth Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies will map out what

can be called the “practical turn“ in media analysis.

The Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies invites applications from

outstanding doctoral candidates throughout the world in media studies and related fields

such as film studies, literary studies, philosophy, art history, architecture, sociology, politics,

the history of science and visual culture. All application materials should be sent by email

to ssms@Princeton.EDU and must be received by November 25, 2013. Please consult the

Application Information page at http://german.princeton.edu/ssms/ for required

documents.

Screenings for John Greyson and Dr. Tarek Loubani; Monday Oct. 7th, 9pm, Gilman Hall 50, Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus

Johns Hopkins will host the kickoff event for An International Day of Screenings for John Greyson and Dr. Tarek Loubani.

Monday October 7th, 9pm, Gilman Hall 50, Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus.

Program includes “Proteus” (2003) and excerpts from “Zero Patience” (1993) and “Lilies” (1996).

Subsequent events are planned across the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK, and elsewhere. In screening some of Greyson’s innovative, stunning, and transgressive work, we also hope to raise awareness about Greyson and Loubani’s current and unjust imprisonment.

Greyson and Loubani are two Canadians who have been held for more than 50 days without charges in a prison in Cairo, Egypt. The two were on their way to the Gaza Strip, where Loubani was to train medical personnel and Greyson planned to film this and other solidarity work being done in Gaza.

For further information on their situation, please go to:

For information about the October 7th screening at JHU, please contact Prof. Todd Shepard at tshep75@jhu.edu or Prof. Stephen Campbell at stephen.campbell@jhu.edu
