To get started on your application you must first create an account by using the English as a Second Language Online Application. Once your account is created, simply log in using your username and password to create and submit your application.

- Summer 2018 – July 2 – August 3 (registration begins January 1)

Tuition and Fees
Tuition for each course is $895. The tuition for the ESL Summer Program, which includes three classes, is $2,500. If an F1 visa is required, there is an additional $50 non-refundable application fee.
Once you have submitted your application, you will have access to the Tuition Payment Form. Complete the form with your preferred payment method and forward it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Tuition and all fees must be paid in full to reserve your spot in the program.
Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, U.S. check, cash (in person), wire transfer, JHU departmental charge and tuition remission (if applicable; see below for more details). Please keep in mind that bank wire transfers sent from students overseas may be processed by several intermediary banks while on their way to the U.S. In some cases these banks may charge a processing fee of $20 or more (in addition to the wire transfer fee charged by your bank), which is then deducted from your wire transfer amount. We must receive payment in full: these processing fees are your responsibility.
Pre-college Students (Summer program ONLY)
If you are 15–17 years of age attending the ESL summer program, you must also enroll in the pre-college residential program unless staying with a parent or guardian. This is an additional cost of $4,350 for room and board, plus $50 non-refundable application fee. Therefore your total payment would be $6,900.
International Applicants (Summer program ONLY)
Once accepted into the program, international students requiring an F1 visa will receive an email titled “Request for Information: ESL at JHU – Request for I-20.” Students should follow the instructions in the email to complete the I-20 request. See Visa Information for additional details and eligibility requirements.
Employees of JHU are eligible for tuition remission once you have completed 90 days of full-time employment as long as you are JHU faculty, staff, or a retiree. Spouse and dependents are also eligible. Visiting faculty and staff, residents, interns and postdoctoral fellows (except for post-docs in the School of Medicine for the ESL Summer Program) are not eligible for tuition remission. Please complete the required tuition remission form at the Benefits website. Completed Tuition Remission forms should be sent directly to email@example.com along with the ESL Online Application.
Postdoctoral Fellows in the School of Medicine may register without being charged tuition for the ESL Summer Program only. Registration for summer courses will require the postdoctoral fellow to first visit the School of Medicine Registrar’s Office to obtain a Verification of Enrollment form. Failure to obtain this form prior to registration will result in the student being billed for tuition fees. SOM enrollment forms should be sent directly to firstname.lastname@example.org along with the ESL online application.
Current JHU full-time International Graduate Students, TAs, Postdoctoral Fellows (AS/EN), Visiting Scholars (AS/EN) may enroll via SIS in the spring/fall semester courses ONLY. Tuition costs or department billing (see below) will apply if enrolling in the summer program.
Other JHU affiliates are responsible for the tuition for these non-credit courses or for locating other sources of payment. No interdivisional or inter-program registration will be accepted.
JHU Department Billing
In some cases, departments may pay for the cost of tuition if they feel that the course is needed for your employment and/or professional development if you are not eligible for tuition remission. Submit the ESL online application and complete the ESL payment form by selecting Department Billing under Method of Payment and include a budget number as well as the contact information of your department’s budget administrator.
