Chris Bauman
The Senior Associate Dean of Finance and Administration, also known as a divisional business officer, is responsible for directing all matters pertaining to the school’s finances, human resources, sponsored research infrastructure, technology, capital projects, and other functions related to the ongoing administrative and operational management of the school.
With more than 18 years of progressive leadership experience in complex academic environments, Bauman brings expertise in strategic financial planning, budget management, and operational excellence. At the Krieger School, he leads a diverse portfolio that includes financial planning and analysis, research administration, human resources, information technology, facilities management, and departmental operations. He plays a pivotal role in driving financial sustainability and fostering a culture of accountability, equity, and inclusion across all administrative functions.
Prior to joining the Krieger School, Bauman served as the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration at the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University. There, he was instrumental in guiding the school through significant financial growth, operational enhancements, and strategic planning initiatives. His leadership resulted in consistent operating surpluses and robust project management frameworks that advanced the school’s mission.
Bauman’s career in higher education includes serving as Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio Business School. During his tenure, he successfully led a financial turnaround and launched initiatives to improve employee engagement and operational efficiency. He also has extensive experience in central university financial strategy and analysis from his earlier roles at Pepperdine University’s Office of Financial Planning.
Bauman earned his MBA with a concentration in finance and his BA in economics from Pepperdine University. His commitment to excellence and innovation in higher education has been a hallmark of his career, positioning him as a trusted leader and advisor within Johns Hopkins University and beyond.
