PLASeres is an interdisciplinary network of graduate students whose research focuses on Latin America. During the fall and spring semesters, we meet one to two times each month over refreshments. Our goal is to provide a welcoming space for graduate students to meet on a regular basis.
The group’s activities include the creation of forums in which students share and receive feedback on their ongoing projects, papers, and grant proposals; the conceptualization and planning of PLAS’s annual conference in the spring; sponsoring guest speakers, both among JHU faculty and from other institutions, as well as various film series; promoting round-table discussions of participants’ summer research sponsored by PLAS; and providing an informal venue for students to interact. Finally, our graduate student liaisons, in addition to organizing our regular meetings, provide students with an opportunity to voice their concerns and suggestions to the directors of PLAS.
