Drew Lichtenberg's research interests include the Piscator-Brecht axis of political theater, avant-garde performance, twentieth-century American theatre history, and Shakespearean and new play dramaturgy. 
 
He has been in residence at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. since 2011, working on more than 60 productions as resident dramaturg, literary manager, and artistic producer. Over the last 20 years, he has worked freelance at the Royal National Theatre in London, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Public Theater, Brooklyn Academy of Music, La Mama, and at regional theatres throughout the country. His ongoing work includes serving as a dramaturgical consultant and editorial assistant with the Lorraine Hansberry Literary Trust. He has had the pleasure of teaching courses at Catholic University of America, Eugene Lang College at the New School and David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University, and is thrilled to be joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins.
 
His byline has appeared in The New York Times as well as peer-reviewed periodicals. Publications include two scholarly monographs, The Piscatorbühne Century (2021, Routledge) and Shakespeare in the Theatre: Shakespeare Theatre Company (2024, Arden/Bloomsbury), co-authored with Deborah C. Payne as well as a translation of Ernst Toller's Hoppla, We're Alive! (Berlinica, 2022). He holds a Master of Fine Arts and a Doctorate of Fine Arts in dramaturgy and dramatic criticism from Yale School of Drama.
