UWP Senior Lecturer and Writing Center Associate Director for Campus & Community Outreach Nate Brown recently published a short story in the award-winning literary journal One Story. “The Sea of Cortés” is a speculative piece that imagines a world racked by the worst effects of global climate change, political instability, and economic inequality. The story was written with the support of the Alces Foundation and the Vermont Studio Center, and was informed by environmental research Brown conducted this spring in California. You can read an excerpt of the story as well as an interview with Brown on One Story‘s website.
Brown also recently interviewed fiction writer Laura van den Berg about her own new, speculative novel State of Paradise for The Rumpus.
