Psychedelic Psychotherapy Critique Approved by American Journal of Bioethics Editorial Board

Neşe Devenot

Neşe Devenot’s critique of MAPS/Lykos’ MDMA-assisted therapy has been the subject of media attention over the past year, most recently in a July article in Wired Magazine. After Devenot published an Open Peer Commentary on this critique in January 2025, The American Journal of Bioethics(AJOB) received a request for corrections by therapist Veronika Gold, who characterized Devenot’s commentary as comprised of “factual inaccuracies and mischaracterizations creating professional and ethical concerns[.]” After a review of supporting material, AJOB affirmed the critique’s validity and invited Devenot to respond to Gold’s letter to the editor. Devenot’s response was just published in AJOB Volume 25, Issue 9. In addition to the feature article in Wired Magazine, Devenot was also interviewed for a July article in Business Insider about the risks of touch in psychedelic therapy.
