Flexible sensory processing enables robust head-direction coding in both sighted and blind animals

Vision plays an important role in our ability to establish a spatial map of the world. What happens to the brain’s spatial awareness and navigation systems following vision loss? Here, we explore this issue by focusing on the head direction system while recording from both sighted and blind mice. 

The Trenholm lab, located at the Montreal Neurological Institute, examines the neuronal circuitry underlying visual perception. The lab is also interested in understanding how the brain changes following vision loss and in exploring vision restoration approaches.
