Student Worker Job Description

Reports to: Natalie Shores, Registrar, University Museums & Collections

Role: Collections Assistant

Hours: Flexible, limited to 4 hours per week, preferably on Monday

Pay: $10.10 – 11.00/hour

Position Summary: This position is ideal for an individual with a professional interest in museums and/or collections care and management. The position will support the registrar in the care and maintenance of exhibition spaces, and the digital documentation of objects in the collection.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete object handling and database training
  • Assist with preventive conservation (i.e. cleaning, housing) of select objects and areas as assigned by the registrar
  • Update object metadata (i.e. conservation reports, photographs) in the collection database
  • Assist in additional projects as assigned

Requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Ability to work at heights of 10 feet or more
    • Willingness to learn and apply collection handling and cleaning techniques
    • Ability to use an Epson V550 scanner
  • Must be able to take direction and complete tasks in a thorough and organized manner
