Museum Exhibit Design Internship (Paid)

Gallagher & Associates is looking for a motivated individual who strives for excellence in exhibit
coordination, content development, and interpretive planning. Our intern candidate would have
a background in museum studies/public history (or related experience), an interest in writing,
history, and museums, and a passion to help our team of designers create world-class exhibits.
G&A is focused on storytelling and creating an exciting museum experience for all visitors.
Interns in the Coordination/Content department will work with our integrated design team to tell
stories that include a diverse set of voices, create experiences that cater to all learning/visitor
types, and ensure that all our designs are in service of the visitor and the museum’s community.

Potential Tasks Include
● Participate in interpretive planning, including research and writing to support design
concepts.
● Coordinate, review, and manage client content as assigned.
● Maintain databases for tracking images, script, and artifacts.
● Assist coordination team with project deliverables for presentations and client meetings.
● Copy edit content summaries, presentation decks, and other written material as needed.
● Assist with image research and acquisition as directed.
● Assist with content research as needed.
● Assist with final artwork production tracking as needed.
● Assist with user-testing as needed.

Additional Intern Activities
● Passion Project – The intern will work with the other interns in the office to produce a
master plan for a hypothetical museum/exhibition/experience that all of the interns will
agree on. This will be presented to the company at the end of the semester. This project
allows the intern to have a fully realized project that they can use in their portfolio.
● Mentorship opportunities – The intern will have the opportunity to work with the
Coordination and Content teams and can choose a mentor for the semester based on
the career path they are interested in pursuing.
● Staff Meet and Greets – The intern will have the opportunity to have conversations with a
staff member of every discipline at G&A to get a sense of all the people and tasks that
are needed to create a museum.

What we look for in an intern:
● A strong interest in or curiosity about experience design and storytelling.
● Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
● Attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
● Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and illustrative).
● Adaptability and ability to respond to the changing needs of varying clients and projects.
● Being an accountable and contributing member of the studio.
● A desire to push your personal creative growth.

Qualifications
● Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program in Museum Studies, Public
History, or a related field.
● Excellent writing and communication skills.
● Close attention to detail and ability to work within strict deadlines.
● Ability to multitask and be proactive.
● Strong people skills and proper business etiquette.
● Knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite preferred.
Requirements
● Internship will start on June 4, 2024. Must be able to attend training sessions that week.
● Must fulfill your program’s required internship hours (ideally 3 days a week from 8:30 –
5:30 EST) if necessary.
● Must be located in one of the following states: California, Colorado, the District of
Columbia, Delaware, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New
Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington.

Internship with the National Museum of the U.S. Army

The National Museum of the U.S. Army is has posted a new internship opportunity for Summer 2024.

The National Army Museum’s mission is to tell the history and traditions of the country’s oldest military service through the eyes of the American Solider. The Museum is located in Fort Belvoir, VA.

Internships allow current or recent undergraduate or graduate students the opportunity to gain experience in museum education, historic research, or exhibition research and development. Internships may be complete in-person or virtually and all internships are unpaid.

Internship with the Ringling Brothers

The Ringling is located on 66-acres of beautiful waterfront property in Sarasota, Florida. To help defray housing costs, The Ringling has partnered with New College of Florida’s housing office so accepted Ringling summer interns can stay in a nearby hotel for less than $50 a day.

2024 Paid McDermott Internships at the Dallas Museum of Art

The Dallas Museum of Art would like to share with your institution information regarding our 2024-2025 McDermott Internship, a full-time, paid internship that provides those with undergraduate or graduate degrees in art, art history, art education, museum studies, and related fields the opportunity to explore a museum career.

McDermott Interns spend nine months working closely onsite with staff in their areas and those across the Museum on a variety of exhibitions and programs. Interns are offered benefits as well as opportunities for cultural enrichment outside the DMA and $500 toward their qualified professional development. Eight specific internship positions are available and applications are due March 18, 2024.

Additionally, we are offering eight paid Summer Art Camp Intern positions, open to current students who are interested in supporting in person DMA summer camp programs for children aged 4-12. Note that the application deadline for these positions is March 31, 2024.

The B&O Railroad Museum is the birthplace of American Railroading, we tell the story of the industrial, economic, and cultural impact the railroads had on the city, the nation, and the world. Additionally, our museum strives to be a central resource for the community to find support and thrive in a 21st century landscape: through workforce development programs, educational outreach and programs, historical preservation, and events.

Nan Pinkard & Aurelia Bolton Curatorial Internship – Summer 2024 at the Homewood Museum

NAN PINKARD & AURELIA BOLTON CURATORIAL INTERNSHIP

Summer 2024

Location: Homewood Museum

PROJECT

This internship will include a $1,500 stipend to be paid for approximately 100 hours of work over the course of 8 weeks during Summer 2024 at Homewood Museum (15.00/hr). The selected candidate will work with the Curator of Collections to arrange a schedule that works best to complete these hours.

This summer, the Pinkard-Bolton intern will work closely with JHU Museums’ Curator of Collections to conduct original research on the mid-19th century history of Homewood Museum with the goal of completing an online exhibition to present their research.

Work will potentially include research focused on convict labor and slavery when the property was under the ownership of Samuel Wyman. Students will be expected to conduct research on site at Homewood and possibly at other archives in the Baltimore area. Over the course of the semester, the selected student will have opportunities to conduct archival research, practice writing for a general museum audience, and gain practical experience in day-to-day museum work.

ELIGIBILITY

All candidates must be enrolled as undergraduate students at Johns Hopkins University and should have some relevant coursework in at least one of the following: American art, American architecture, American history, anthropology, material culture, education, or the Museums & Society Program. Summer 2024 Internship with the National Baseball Hall of Fame

The National Baseball Hall of Fame is accepting applications for Summer 2024 internship positions! 

For more than twenty years, the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development has provided undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on training in numerous professional careers. This 10-week program offers a bi-weekly stipend for all interns and can be completed for course credit. Scholarships are available!
