Corey R. Payne is a sociologist of war, labor, globalization, and climate change. He has a BA in International Studies and a PhD in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University. His research examines war and militarism sociologically—from the Middle East to Ukraine to the South China Sea—by bringing labor relations (with their race, class, and citizenship dimensions) into the analysis. His work has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals and he is co-editor of the book World-Systems Analysis at a Critical Juncture (2022). Before joining the UWP, Corey was the coordinator of JHU’s Global Social Change and Development program and taught courses in the Department of Sociology.
