Xavier Oliver holds a PhD in English language and literature from Johns Hopkins University. Their research interests include philosophy of language (particularly the study of figuration, modeling, and metaphor), phenomenology, and post-secularism, as well as 19th and 20th century African-American literature. Oliver is also committed to anti-racist and decolonial forms of theory and practice. Before attending Hopkins, they earned their B.A. in English language and literature with a minor in French at UC Irvine.
