EAS congratulates Leyra Espino-Nardi, Phoebe More and Mary Lee on successfully completing their senior theses in East Asian Studies.
Under the supervision Professor Francois Furstenberg, Leyra Espino-Nardi’s thesis’ When Rights Take Root investigates the passage of the 1970 Basic Act For Persons With Disabilities in Japan. Phoebe More was advised by Professor Rebecca Brown and wrote her thesis on Artist Xiao Lu and her 1989 artwork Dialogue, whereas Mary Lee wrote on The Effects of Communication Regime on Chinese International Student Democratic Activism in U.S. University Campuses from 1989-2022 under the guidance of Professor Ho-fung Hung.
In May, Leyra will graduate from JHU with a degree in History and East Asian Studies, Phoebe with a degree in History of Arts and East Asian Studies, and Mary will complete the undergraduate portion of her BA-MA degree. She will be at JHU-SAIS for the academic year 2025-26!
