Working on Human Rights in East Asia – Andrea Worden

October 14, 2022 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

Location: Mergenthaler 266

Andrea Worden

Andréa Worden, William A. Reinsch Practitioner-Instructor in East Asian Studies, will give an overview of some of the different kinds of organizations that students might explore if they are interested in pursuing internships, jobs, or a career in human rights with a focus on East Asia. This is her fifth and final year teaching a course in EAS on human rights and advocacy skills, and most recently, the human rights implications of Covid-19 in Asia.

The global human rights picture is bleak, including here in the US. The good news, however, is that many governments, multilateral organizations, and the non-profit sector are focused on mapping and implementing human-rights based approaches to address many of the pressing problems of our time –– from pandemics to climate change to the rise of authoritarianism globally. There’s much work to be done, and many different ways to do it. Hope you’ll join the discussion!

Co-sponsored by the International Studies Program

The East Asia Unscripted Speaker Series is a lecture series featuring speakers with careers centered on East Asia, who will share their professional experiences with students and faculty on topics of contemporary relevance for the region.
