FMS Launches Faculty Search

The Program in Film and Media Studies invites applications for the position of full-time Lecturer in film, video, and media production, with the anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.

FMS balances a rigorous education in production—from 16mm filmmaking and digital video to stop-motion animation and post-production—with film and media history, aesthetics, philosophy, and theory, as well as screenwriting. It produces thoughtful graduates conversant in multiple areas of craft and study, the majority of whom pursue careers in film and media. Our faculty, like our students, are thinkers and creators of work that engages both practice and theory, and our program is positioned for a dynamic period of growth and development.

The committee welcomes candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds in filmmaking and teaching experience, including: narrative, documentary, or experimental filmmaking, with a focus on producing, directing, screenwriting, television writing, cinematography, or editing. Candidates across a variety of career stages, with both independent and mainstream filmmaking backgrounds in one or more of these areas, are encouraged to apply.

The outstanding candidate will possess a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates; a passion for helping students navigate film and media projects of varying lengths and levels of complexity; and a desire to create original course offerings to enhance the existing curriculum.

Filmmaking experience is essential. An M.F.A is a plus but not essential, as is some teaching experience at the university level.Application Instructions
