Congratulations to Prof. Jacob Haubenreich on the publication of his book Textual Entanglements: Handke, Bernhard, Rilke, and the Materiality of Literature (Cornell UP, 2025)! The book thoroughly revises how we understand the genesis of a work by drawing attention to the role that that materiality plays in the process. Informed by thinkers as varied as Karen Barad, Jane Bennett, Ian Bogost, Bruno Latour, and Timothy Morton, Haubenreich develops a notion of distributed agency tied specifically to the act of writing and the materials used in composition (paper, ink, pencil, pocket notebooks, typewriters, etc.).
Copies of the book can be purchased here.
