Heidi Wheeler joined the German faculty in 1999. She received her MA in German language and literature from the University of Kansas and her BA in German from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She has studied in Vienna and in Hamburg and has completed advanced graduate study in German at Johns Hopkins University.  

Her primary interests are in German pedagogy, culture studies, politics, environmentalism, and translation. She coordinates and teaches the intermediate-level courses, as well German for Reading and Translation, Business German, and German for Science and Engineering.
