Victoria Livingstone is the managing editor of MLN. She manages all six issues of the journal: Italian, Yiddish & Hebrew, Spanish & Portuguese, German, French, and Comparative Literature.

She holds a doctorate in Hispanic literature from Boston University. She was a Fulbright scholar in Brazil (Universidade de São Paulo) and a fellow at the Harry Ransom Center (UT Austin). She taught writing, literature, and translation classes at several universities until she began managing MLN in 2024.

Her book Harriet de Onís and the Translation of Latin American Literature (Bloomsbury Academic, 2027) is a study of the political, economic, and cultural forces that shaped the circulation of translated Latin American literature in the U.S. market between 1930 and 1969. The book focuses on the work of Harriet de Onís, who wielded a great deal of influence as a translator, critic, and editorial advisor to several major publishers, most notably Alfred A. Knopf, the leading publisher of Latin American literature in the U.S. during these years.

Dr. Livingstone is also the translator of a book of Maya K’iche’ poetry, Pablo García’s B’ixonik tzij kech juk’ulaj kaminaqib’/ Canto palabra de una pareja de muertos (2009). Her translation, titled Song from Xibalba, is forthcoming in a new edition from Amherst College Press. The first edition was published by Achiote Press in 2014 with the title Song from the Underworld.

In addition to her work as a scholar and translator, Dr. Livingstone writes poetry, literary essays, and journalistic pieces. Her work has been published widely in outlets including Time, The Washington Post, UNESCO Ideas Lab, Cognoscenti (WBUR), and Guernica. She writes a newsletter on human creativity and AI called Human Generated.
