AGHI is pleased to announce two postdoctoral fellowships which are now public, to begin in the academic year 2024–25:

The Tabb Center / AGHI Engaged Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This postdoctoral fellowship offers a unique opportunity to train for a career in public humanities. The one-year position, renewable for a second year, supports public humanities initiatives on and around the Homewood and Peabody campuses in Baltimore and the Bloomberg Center in Washington, DC. During the first fellowship year, the postdoc will assist in the logistical organization, publicizing, web management, and execution of events including individual talks and lecture series, performances, conferences, and exhibitions. If renewed for a second year, the postdoc will also propose and implement programming that enhances the public engagement goals of both the Tabb Center and AGHI

Eligibility—The successful candidate will have:

  • Defended a PhD in the humanities by May 31, 2024. Applicants may not be more than 6 years past their PhD.
  • Demonstrate scholarly excellence in the humanities, broadly conceived.

Full position details and application portal at Interfolio (deadline: March 15, 2024).

Society of Fellows in the Humanities 2024-25:

The Society of Fellows assembles a select group of recent PhD and MFA recipients to pursue a range of meaningful careers available to scholars in the Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences. Fellows will build on their doctoral training as they explore new applications for their academic expertise through hands-on experience.

This initiative has four major goals:

  • Provide recent graduates with an opportunity to expand their areas of interest and expertise.
  • Diversify the potential career paths of Krieger School graduates.
  • Give PhD candidates incentive to finish their degree in a timely manner.
  • Display the value of the humanities both within Johns Hopkins and outside of the university.

Candidates will propose a year-long project that draws on their expertise and makes a contribution to the university community, the city of Baltimore, or some other public-facing endeavor. They are responsible for formulating their project in conversation with the program or office where they plan to work and identifying a mentor willing to supervise their project for the entire year. The project should entail 30 hours of work per week for the period of July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.
