“Beyond the Page: the Hidden Worlds of Ancient Science seeks to collectively imagine the possibilities of what we call pre-modern science “off the page”. It aims to investigate the knowledge-making which occurs beyond author- and text-centric conceptions of ‘science’, centering what is occluded or marginalized by the surviving text as well as the ripple effects of these activities as part of a knowledge exchange economy in the broader pre-modern world. Spanning diverse times, places, and communities, this event engages with topics of intellectual culture, the history and philosophy of science, medicine, technology, and more.”
