On Tuesday, April 16 at 6pm in Gilman 377​, our last lecture of the year in the Spanish section will be delivered by Ignasi Gozalo Salellas, Professor in Information and Communication Sciences at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. He will be talking about his latest book La excepcionalidad permanente. Nuestros estados de excepción (Anagrama, 2023), which rethinks Spain’s current so-called exceptional place within Europe through a rereading of figures such as Max Weber, Carl Schmitt, and Juan Donoso Cortés.

Ignasi’s research sits at the intersection of media archeology, Catalan studies, political theory, and contemporary Spanish visual culture. Before becoming a scholar, he worked as a filmmaker and art director in the media industry for many years, including at Mediapro and other companies.
