THEORIZING RACIAL CAPITALISM

The term “racial capitalism” has become a buzzword, used across the academic disciplines and even in the public sphere. Along with the rise of the term have come critics, eager to denounce it. This talk probes the racial capitalism idea for its promise as a social theory, delineating different usages of the term, addressing critiques of the term and offering the outline for a theory of racial capitalism that recognizes the contingent and contextual character of the relationship between race and capitalism.

Open to all, no RSVP required.

Julian Go is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies; Faculty Affiliate in the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, & Culture and the Committee on International Relations
