“Democracy’s Contract with Inequality: Embedded in It’s Fold”

This talk, or rather long lasting reflection, begins in the turbulent throes of colonial studies in the early 1990s when the analytic field of metropole and colony flourished, unevenly I would argue, riveted more on the profits garnered in the colonies than the contorted metropolitan arrangements that made imperial formations such a resounding success. This talk focuses on the performative display of democratic principles when they were in fact on the line.
