Lecture by Professor Shelley P. Haley
Edward North Chair of Classics Emerita
Hamilton College

There is evidence in the Roman literature of the Augustan age and later that the Romans were acute observers of difference: gender, class, and even skin-color difference. In this lecture, Dr. Haley examines how each of these differences carry varying value and that their intersection and simultaneity carry yet another value.
