Technology and the Public: Bridging the Gap of Knowledge

The students of The Academic Conference: a class in the University Writing Program at Johns Hopkins University, are delighted to invite submissions to its conference “Technology and the Public: Bridging the Gap of Knowledge.”

Background description of theme and suggestions
Technology in the digital age has become an evermore integral part of societal function. As innovation
accelerates in its applications and power, an inevitable gap between public knowledge and technology emerges.

With new research comes new responsibilities, and we need to address how these advances have impacted

  • Discussing the newest advances in STEM, or other research, and their impact on the public and the environment
  • Misinformation and disinformation about tech
  • How public interests drive tech innovation
  • Discussing different strategies to accurately inform the public of new technologies
  • How tech can be used to spread mis/disinformation
  • Discussing educational inequity caused by the distribution of new technologies and allocation of resources domestic and abroad
  • Discussing how information available on new research and technology affects consumer behavior
  • Addressing misuse/abuse of technology
  • Novel applications of existing technologies
