The Public Health Studies Program offer students many opportunities to extend learning outside the classroom. These opportunities afford students a chance to apply what they’ve learned in real world situations and begin to make an impact on the public health challenges we face today.

There are several ways in which PHS student engage in experiential learning during their time at JHU. One is through the Applied Experience, a one-credit requirement for PHS majors which involves hands-on experience supervised by a public heath professional. Another is through optional independent academic work, which can be done for credit and encompasses research, internships, and independent study opportunities. PHS students often participate in study abroad experiences as well.

Our PHS advisers work with students as they progress through the major to incorporate the experiential opportunities they wish to pursue.
