Shirley Xie (PHS student) and Garrett Gregory (ChemBE student), both members of HopOn Harm Reduction, were featured in the January 30th Hub article, “Johns Hopkins students offer harm reduction in East Baltimore”. Through HopOn Harm Reduction they distributed free syringes, Narcan, and other supplies to reduce the dangers and stigmas associated with drug use. Operating from “the Lighthouse” in East Baltimore, they reached 573 residents during the 2023-2024 academic year, providing essential items like Narcan, syringes, smoke kits, and food. The program, founded by Max Sahhar, aims to empower individuals to reduce their own harm and improve their quality of life. Volunteers receive training to ensure the safety and comfort of both participants and themselves.
