Seedling is looking for Teaching Volunteers and Paid Teachers (JHU FWS only) for Spring and Summer 2024.

Seedling Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to promote educational equity in food and STEM literacy through tailored youth programming, sustainable hydroponics products, and widespread initiatives tackling food insecurity, sustainability, and healthy living. Seedling is partnered with Baltimore City Public Schools and community-based organizations to teach children about gardening, nutrition, sustainability, computer-aided design, entrepreneurship, and more. As a social venture, Seedling also partners with local businesses to build and sell hydroponics kits, which provide educational enrichment and fund youth programming.
Spring 2024 Program:
During the school year, Seedling operates recurring sessions at seven teaching locations in Baltimore. The following teaching times are available for Spring 2024:
- Site 1: Thurs/Fri (11 AM-12:10 PM, 12:15-1:25 PM, 1:30-2:40 PM, 2:45-3:55 PM)
- Site 5: Tues (4:15-5:15 PM)
- Site 6: Thurs (4:15-5:15 PM)
- Site 7: Tues/Thurs (4-5 PM)
Summer 2024 Program:
This Summer 2024, Seedling will be hosting an in-person summer program at Dayspring, Inc. in Baltimore from July 8th-Aug 16th. Teaching sessions will tentatively take place Mon-Fri from 9:30-10:30 AM.
NOTE: Transportation fees for teaching sessions will be reimbursed for JHU teaching volunteers only!
Requirements:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have High School Diploma
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have an interest in STEM, health, food, or sustainability
- Have prior experience teaching and interacting with youth
