FAMILIAR TOUCH Film Screening
November 4 at 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm
Johns Hopkins Film and Media Studies invites the community to a free screening of the multi-award-winning film FAMILIAR TOUCH at the Charles Theatre. Written and directed by Sarah Friedland, the film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, earning the Lion of the Future Award and multiple Orizzonti prizes. It has since received widespread acclaim, including nominations for Best Picture and Best Breakthrough Director at the Gotham Awards, and boasts an impressive 87/100 on Metacritic and 98/100 on Rotten Tomatoes.
FAMILIAR TOUCH tells the story of Ruth, an octogenarian former cook navigating life in assisted living as her memory shifts. Emerging from a collaborative filmmaking process with real-life assisted living residents, the film offers a layered, empathetic portrayal of aging and identity. Following the screening, a Q&A will feature Dr. Ariel Green (Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine), Jennifer Schrack (Center for Aging and Health), and producer Alexandra Byer.
