For Seniors or Graduates: Postbaccalaureate Fellowship in Cancer Epidemiology at NCI

Description:
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for two-year postbaccalaureate research fellowships in cancer epidemiology. Fellows will work on impactful projects exploring cancer health disparities, survivorship, and hormonally-related exposures. Opportunities include conducting data analyses, drafting abstracts, attending conferences, and contributing to or leading research publications. Fellows will also benefit from professional development programs, preparing them for careers in healthcare, research, or graduate/medical school.

Projects:

  1. Health Disparities in Cancer: Focus on racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in cancer, with a particular emphasis on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander populations.
  2. Breast Cancer Survivorship Risks: Investigate health risks, such as second cancers, cardiovascular disease, and mortality among breast cancer survivors. Work with the NCI-Kaiser Permanente Breast Cancer Survivors Cohort research team (details here).
  3. DES Follow-Up Study: Examine the long-term health effects of diethylstilbestrol (DES), a known carcinogen and teratogen affecting multiple generations (details here).

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Master’s-level students graduating by Spring 2025 or post-grad.
  • Background in epidemiology, public health, or biostatistics required.
  • Experience with statistical tools (Stata, SAS, R) preferred.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Rockville, Maryland.
