The five-year BA/MA program with the renowned French political science institute Sciences Po Paris provides a select group of undergraduate students a unique opportunity to pursue an accelerated dual-degree program between JHU and Sciences Po that will ultimately result in a master’s degree from one of the four schools of Sciences Po.

One of Europe’s most prestigious universities, Sciences Po has a strong international focus, allowing students to develop a cross-cultural and transatlantic perspective, while simultaneously offering unique access to the field of international affairs via the school’s extensive global network of international leaders, governments, NGOs, and corporations. A member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), Sciences Po prepares its graduates for careers ranging from international business to law to government while its research master’s program caters to students interested in academic or research-oriented careers.

The Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), which houses the majority of Sciences Po’s internationally oriented master’s programs, is a bilingual institution, and students may choose to pursue either an English or French track of study. French proficiency is not required for admission, but students who are not proficient in French pursue French language training during their course of study at Sciences Po. Note: Beginning in Fall 2025, Sciences Po will no longer provide grades for language courses, and therefore, if taken, they will not be transferable back to Johns Hopkins.

Students may also elect to pursue a master’s degree at the School of Journalism, School of Communication, or School of Law. Students interested in an academic career may choose to pursue a research master’s with the doctoral program at Sciences Po.

The Sciences Po program includes a one-semester full-time internship of the students’ choosing, in place of academic coursework, at a French or international organization or business.

Students apply to the BA/MA program during the first semester of their junior year. Selected students spend their junior year at Hopkins, choosing their courses so as to ideally complete their major requirements before beginning their studies at Sciences Po. During their senior year, students remain enrolled at Hopkins but study in Paris as Sciences Po master’s students. During their second year, students have graduated from Hopkins but continue working towards their master’s degree at Sciences Po.
